The Duty of Care
Arden’s values are founded on a strong pastoral system which
nurtures and supports the whole child.
Your child will be placed in the care of a dedicated Head of Year
and Form Tutor for their full five years at Arden. Our ethos is based
on support and collaboration between all the people in our school.
We are proud of our family mentality. We work hard to foster strong
relationships between our adults and children – we are equally
enthusiastic in encouraging our young people to work with and
respect one another.
At Arden we care for the WHOLE child. Ours is an establishment
where mutual respect, rights and responsibilities inform behavioural
expectations and foster relationships across the whole school
community. We reward emotional intelligence as well as academic,
regarding the two as of equal importance.
An emotionally supportive atmosphere is invaluable in helping a
young person develop into a happy, healthy adult .
Arden works hard to ensure all children achieve. Occasionally there
are problems which require extra specialist help. We engage
outside agencies to support us in this work, such as the Education
Welfare Officers and the School Nurse.
Pupils are also involved in caring for each other in a formal capacity.
Pupils are trained as peer mentors and mediators. Pupils involved in
these schemes form an invaluable layer of support to complement
that provided by the adults.
Parents and Arden
The success of Arden is founded upon the close co-operation and
involvement of parents across the spectrum of school activities.
Parents too are key players in their child’s school career.
At Arden we positively encourage parents to contribute towards
and support their child’s education. Obviously we ask parents to
uphold the ethos and standards of the school but also to contribute
by volunteering to help with clubs and activities (particularly if special
knowledge or skills are available) or perhaps offering work
experience opportunities that are invaluable in introducing young
people to the world of employment . Our commitment to a strong
working relationship with parents is reinforced by regular, proactive
contact between Arden and its parent throughout the year.
This structured dialogue comprises regular reports to parents;
Parental Consultation events; the use of Homework Diaries,
invitations to School Presentation Evenings and Awards Ceremonies,
as well as through regular, informative newsletters and of course
the Parent-Teacher Association, which is always happy to welcome
new members. The Arden PTA is dedicated to ‘making a difference’
and ‘giving support’.
Parents wishing to know more about what the PTA do should
visit their website www.ardenpta.co.uk or seek out one of the
Committee Members at any of the forthcoming events.
Alongside this well-established framework of contact with parents
we trust that, where parents have a particular concern which they
feel strongly cannot be dealt with at the Parents’ Consultation, they
will telephone the school to discuss this with the child’s Form Tutor
or Head of Year. Parents may also make an appointment to meet
with a senior member of staff at a mutually convenient time.
