Key Stage Four
During Years 10 and 11 every pupil follows a core curriculum
of English Language and Literature, Maths and Science, with all
pupils having access to the English Baccalaureate. All pupils also
continue with their first Modern Foreign Language and can also
opt to continue their second.
There are currently four pathways within Science, ensuring each
pupil can gain success at an appropriate level. The four Science
pathways comprise Triple Science, Core and Additional Science,
Core and Applied Science, and BTec Certificate in Applied Science.
In order to allow all pupils to build on their strengths and
achieve their maximum potential, there are a wide variety of
courses offered at Key Stage Four. These encompass both
different subjects and different styles of working and assessment
within the GCSE and BTec frameworks.
Each pupil’s Key Stage Four programme of study is constructed
using this extensive menu, providing a personalised pathway
which maximises the opportunity for individual success.
The Library
We are extremely proud of our library at Arden. The facility, which
includes two dedicated Computer Suites, is much valued by pupils,
providing a quiet, well designed, fully resourced environment where
pupils carry out research and undertake projects.
The Librarian plays an invaluable role in helping pupils of all ages to
access information or reading matter for research and pleasure. They
are also just as happy to allow youngsters to browse through the
carefully referenced shelves, following their own instincts in chancing
upon a subject or article which captures their imagination.
Whether accessing Arden’s library for education, or for pleasure, new
reading experiences are open for every pupil.
The Learning Zone
Should a child have Special Educational Needs, they are monitored
and supported by our SEN Department . The department is based in
Arden’s Learning Zone, which coordinates closely targeted support
for children with special or additional educational needs.
The Department comprises a Special Educational Needs Co-
ordinator (SENCO) who is a Vice-Principal, a Director of Learning
Support , a Lead Learning Support Assistant , a Learning Support
Manager and our excellent team of nine LSAs.
Our aim is to help all learners to become independent in their education
and provide them with the life skills and strategies to leave school to
confidently face the world of work and/or further education.
