Creative Arts and Technology
The Creative Arts and Technology Faculty is extremely lively, with a
wide range of courses taking place, forming a vibrant and forward
thinking element of the school day for all pupils. The Faculty is
housed in an exciting new block called ‘The Smart Centre’. The
Centre’s multi-purpose classrooms are positioned around ‘The
Atrium’; a bright shared space featuring four multi-station iDesk
pods of computers. The flexibility of the space allows Creative Arts
and Technology pupils to work and learn alongside Sixth Form
students and staff.
There are two Design and Technology workshops equipped with
work benches, tools and equipment , CAD/CAM machines and
iDesk computers. A multipurpose design room which is used for
Textiles also has a suite of Apple Mac computers for Photography.
There are two spacious Art and Design rooms with ceramic and
textiles facilities. A third Art and Design classroom houses a
photography studio and dark room. Two fully equipped specialist
kitchens cater for Hospitality and Home Economics lessons.
Classrooms in the Centre feature learning walls with interactive
Smart Whiteboards.
In Key Stage Three pupils have three hours per week in Art and
Design & Technology areas. At Key Stage Four the Faculty offers a
wide range of Design and Technology GCSEs including Resistant
Materials; Graphics; Textiles; Home Economics; Product Design and
Art & Design. There are BTEC courses available in Hospitality, Art ,
Engineering, Health and Social Care and Travel & Tourism.
The Smart Centre is also home to an impressive state of the art
Hairdressing Salon offering courses to Arden students as well as
students from other local schools. We operate a unique partnership
with Francesco Group Hairdressing and regularly welcome
members of the local community to the salon to be live models.
Key Stage Five students can also study Fine Art; Photography; Home
Economics and Product Design at A Level.
