A BTEC course in Applied Science is offered to pupils following a
vocational pathway and is equivalent to two GCSEs. This aims to
develop a comprehensive understanding of fundamental scientific
principles and the impact of Science in the modern world.
Sixth Form students can continue their studies in Biology,
Chemistry and Physics at A level and also have Environmental
Studies to consider. Sciences are a very popular option at Arden
with 16 classes in Years 12 and 13. During their time studying
the students may undertake a residential field trip or compete
nationally in the Biology, Chemistry or Physics Olympiads.
Due to their interest in Science stimulated at Arden, many
students opt to continue their studies in the subject at
universities including Oxford and Cambridge. Former Arden
students studying Medicine return to the school to offer advice
to current students in workshops run by the Science Department
on what to expect during the application process.
A lunchtime Science Club, which promotes just how fun and
exciting Science can be, is run with the help of Sixth Form
students and is hugely popular.
