Dance
Dance lessons are provided by a high quality teaching team that
successfully balances technique with creativity. The fully equipped
dance studio provides an excellent environment for pupils to
experiment and learn. It features a fully sprung floor and mirrored
walls that enable pupils to explore movement and self evaluate.
The dance studio’s inviting space is also open to pupils before and
after school and during lunchtime.
Carefully structured to make it genuinely accessible to every pupil
at Arden, Dance is enjoyed by both boys and girls as part of their
Physical Education curriculum. Many go on to further their
knowledge and understanding by studying the discipline at GCSE
and A Level.
Arden’s Dance Team provides the flexibility to encourage creativity
and self expression. Popular enrichments to the core curriculum
include Street Dance, Ballroom Dancing and Contemporary Ballet.
The Department’s gifted and talented programme ‘Move IT’ has
proved incredibly successful in challenging pupil’s creatively
through use of technology. Using ‘Move IT’ pupils have produced
some outstanding work, exploring how to create dance for film,
considering all aspects of production when choreographing.
‘Dance Leaders’ allows pupils to gain leadership skills through
dance; many of Arden’s dancers are keen to share their skills and
passion in dance. Dance Leaders Level One gives them the
foundation to do this, helping pupils learn how to plan, deliver and
evaluate sessions with confidence. Dance pupils are proud of their
work and are keen to perform in open evenings, public
performances and school productions. Many have also gone on
to successfully audition for places at prestigious schools like
Elmhurst, Tring and Laine.
