Information and Communication Technology
ICT is an exciting, dynamic and fast moving sector, a technology that
today is at the heart of almost everything that we do. Speaking of
the PC revolution, Microsoft’s inspirational father Bill Gates once said
“We’re changing the world with technology.”
At Arden, we embrace the accelerating pace of change with a
curriculum that enables pupils to develop their creativity and
interests, whilst building a three dimensional understanding of the
role ICT plays in the world around them. A caring, supportive
teaching approach encourages pupils to take ownership of their
learning, and provides them with the life skills and knowledge to
achieve personal excellence. The Department provides challenging,
rewarding opportunities; for instance in Year 9, pupils are able to
study for a nationally recognised professional Level 2 qualification.
ICT is an extremely popular subject to study at Key Stage Four. At
this level pupils develop their awareness of the contribution ICT
makes to society through a variety of units. These modules help
pupils develop subject-specific understanding and skills; knowledge
that is relevant to their lives and careers. Pupils study different
applications of ICT, and learn skills that will prepare them for the
real world, such as developing a working system for a particular end
user. Projects are varied and exciting and can range from computer
game development through working with robotic systems to
supporting the scientists combating global warming.
Our outstanding results up to and including Key Stage Five reflect
the commitment and hard work of our staff and the pupils they
inspire to succeed.
