ARD E N
Why Arden?
Deciding to join our Sixth Form is a major decision both for Arden’s
own Year 11 pupils and for those from local schools. Diligent ,
independent, hard working, ambitious students have a right to the
finest possible education. Arden provides the grounding for
academic success and the chance to develop as young adults,
ensuring that students leave us happy, confident and well equipped
for the future.
There are several reasons why we believe Arden should be the first
choice for Sixth Form study. We have a team of highly qualified
subject specialists, all with experience of teaching at the highest
levels; in fact many carry out work for the examination boards
themselves. The relationships with teaching staff will be different too;
Sixth Formers are treated as young adults and are expected to work
with their tutors to identify, meet and exceed challenging goals.
Arden provides a range of courses that make a great foundation for
a successful future, with over 25 A’ Level subjects currently on offer.
The assistance on offer in terms of careers advice and applying to
University is also of the highest order. Our Sixth Formers have a well-
deserved reputation for securing places at the very best Universities:
a major factor for students joining Arden.
Arden prides itself on a pastoral support system where everyone is
valued and cared for. A personal tutor is assigned to students on
joining the Sixth Form, a tutor who will offer guidance and support
through the complexities of A Level. It is always a pleasure to see
past students pop in to say ‘hello’ to their former tutors.
A bright future
Arden envelops senior students in a culture of success, providing
numerous opportunities to build the extra qualities Universities and
employers want. Many develop leadership skills as Senior Prefects,
become involved in mentoring younger pupils, or gain extra
qualifications like the Arts Award or Open University accreditation.
Arden’s reputation for Music and Drama is well deserved; both areas
provide the chance to perform to a high standard or build
experience behind the scenes in production, set design and lighting.
Many undertake work experience and Arden can help arrange this.
For some, careers experience is virtually essential, and historically
numerous students have found placements in Hospitals, Law Offices,
Schools and Veterinary Surgeries. Arden always welcomes ideas, and
if we can ‘make it happen’ for our students, then we will. The popular
Ad-Alt magazine is a typical example of a successful student initiative.
Students who enjoy an active life style can be supported to hone and
develop their skills in a chosen sport or activity. Over the years Arden
students have competed at the very highest levels in activities ranging
from gymnastics to ballroom dancing, but we also cater for those who
pursue activities simply for pleasure, and we welcome suggestions for
broadening the opportunities provided within our programme.
The highlight for many Year 11s is the End of Year Prom, celebrating
leaving school or moving up to Key Stage Five. In the Sixth Form we
have our own celebration at the end of Year 13 with a formal dinner
and disco at a prestigious local hotel, an occasion very much enjoyed
by all, and a fitting conclusion to two successful years of Sixth Form life.
